Mr. Andrew Grant is the Director of the Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Terrorism in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the U.S. Department of State. As director, Mr. Grant's primary responsibility is to represent the U.S. within the international community on efforts to combat WMD terrorism and to support U.S. efforts to strengthen our capacity to prevent or appropriately respond to WMD terrorism. In that capacity, Mr. Grant focuses on strengthening policy, operations, and communications across a variety of communities, to include the scientific, security, and military communities focused on preventing WMD proliferation and terrorism. As the primary implementation office for the President's Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, Mr. Grant supports U.S. efforts to implement capacity building activity to combat nuclear terrorism with international partners, state and local governments, and the private sector. The partnership, which now includes 60 nations, is aggressively pursuing several efforts across the spectrum of combating nuclear terrorism activities, to include workshops, conferences, and exercises. In support of the Global Initiative and other combating WMD terrorism efforts, Mr. Grant has made several public remarks - which are available at www.state.gov.
Before assuming his current role as Office Director, Mr. Grant held the position of Deputy Office Director for the WMD Terrorism office and other senior staff positions within the Department of State, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mr. Grant is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds advanced degrees from the American Military University and the National Defense Intelligence College. Before his service with the Department of State, Mr. Grant served in a variety of command operations as a U.S. Marine in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.
