Peter TirschwellPeter Tirschwell joined The Journal of Commerce in 1992 as a trade and transportation reporter in New York. In 1994 he moved to the San Francisco office as the paper's West Coast bureau chief. He returned to New York in 1997 as assistant managing editor. In March 1999 he was appointed editor-in-chief of The Journal of Commerce, the oldest business newspaper in the United States, founded in 1827 by Samuel F. B. Morse. Mr. Tirschwell and his editorial staff oversaw the June 2000 debut of the weekly Journal of Commerce magazine and its companion daily breaking news website, JoC Online.

Currently, Mr. Tirschwell serves as editor in chief of the Journal of Commerce and Editorial Director of the Journal of Commerce Shipper Group, a unit of Commonwealth Business Media Inc., which acquired the JoC from the Economist Group in Nov. 2001. As editorial director of the Journal of Commerce Shipper Group, Mr. Tirschwell oversees the editorial for four regional U.S. weekly maritime magazines, Pacific Shipper, Gulf Shipper, The Florida Shipper, and Shipping Digest. He organizes the successful JoC Trans-
Pacific Maritime conference, the annual Breakbulk Transportation conference in New Orleans, as well as other JoC conferences. He worked with Massport in 2003 to create the Liner CEO Forum in Boston. He writes a weekly column in The Journal of Commerce.

Mr. Tirschwell has spoken at various trade and transportation events, including; the global market breakfast series of the Weissman Center for International Business, Baruch College, City University of New York; Maritime Security Expo; Marine Society; Propeller Club of Washington D.C.; Wescon, and many others. He received the 2000 Media Leadership Award from the National Cargo Security Council, and has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times, and has appeared on CNN and CNBC.

He serves on the board of the Seamen's Church Institute and the New York City 100 Year Association, and is an honorary member of the Marine Society of the City of New York.

Mr. Tirschwell received an MBA degree from Fordham University and BA from the University of Maine.
